Background

Collaboration between ASEAN Quantity Surveyors Association & Fed. MES: On August 8, 2021, officials from both organizations held their first coordination meeting via the Zoom platform. The discussion focused on enhancing the capacity of Quantity Surveying practitioners in Myanmar and collaborating to help them achieve international professional standards.

About AQSA: The ASEAN Quantity Surveyors Association (AQSA) was established to advance the Quantity Surveying profession. Its founding members include Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, the Philippines, and Indonesia. Thailand and Myanmar are recognized as member countries in 2022, while Cambodia and Vietnam participate as observer countries.

QS CHAPTER DEVELOPMENT

Establishment

Establishment of the QS Chapter: It was established under the leadership and guidance of the President and Central Executive Committee of the Federation of Myanmar Engineering Societies (Fed. MES). Patrons include Engr. Win Tint, Engr. Tin Latt, and the Director General of the Department of Building, Ministry of Construction.

Leadership Team

Leadership Team: The initial committee included Engr. Thein Zaw (Chairman), Engr. Saw Htwe Zaw (Vice Chairman), U Wai Phyo Linn (Secretary), and Ms. Le Le Win (Joint Secretary, Chartered Quantity Surveyor). In February 2024, Dr. Kyaing took over as Chairman, with Daw Le Le Win continuing as Secretary.

Membership Status

Membership Status: As of July 2025, there are 129 professionals recognized by the Myanmar Engineering Council as RE, RSE, and PE (Construction QS). Membership levels are categorized as Student, Associate, Technical, Member, and Professional Member.

CURRENT FOCUS

Efforts are underway to strengthen the association’s structure and regulations in accordance with PAQS Constitution Clause 2.1 to become a member of the Pacific Association of Quantity Surveyors (PAQS).

Membership in PAQS is essential for Myanmar Quantity Surveyors to gain recognition not only at the ASEAN level but also globally.
